Delays to the Schools White Paper – DCP response

Disabled Children’s Partnership response to the delay of the Schools White Paper

Delay to the white paper is deeply frustrating for parents who need an end to the uncertainty swirling around SEND provision, when their lives are complex enough. However it is important that the government takes time to make the right decisions.

We welcome the Secretary of State setting out her principles on SEND reform but she must add accountability for young people and families to rebuild trust in the system.

We also welcome the Schools Minister’s recent efforts to listen to and learn from young people, families and charities and hope that this will continue so that changes can be based on what really works for disabled children and deliver for our entire society and economy.

Ultimately, what all young people and families want are ordinary things like their child to be educated in a safe place with teachers that understand how they learn.
